Oh wait, in order to dream you have to sleep, right? Now I know why everyone but me in my family has had a dream with my Mom in it.
Cameron is a sweet, loving, cute baby. He sleeps well, makes the cutest faces, eats well, he looks around with the cutest looks when he has wake time. But then night falls. ANd my loveable sweet baby turns into devil spawn.
Ok, it really isn't THAT bad, but my goodness. He does not sleep, he sometimes is fussy when he eats, and sometimes he acts like he wants to eat every hour. He is fussy and not much consoles him.
I think this would have been easier to handle had this been my first baby. Infact, most babies I know act this way. I was so happy/surprised to have Maddie who was an angel baby. All my family told me I was so lucky, and I did know that. DJ on the other hand did not really get it. He thought she cried a lot. HA, he sure is eating his words now. Anyhow, I was really hoping for two angel babies. But I will make do. I love that little man more than words can describe, but BOY oh BOY would I LOVE some sleep!

I'm bored...
Actually more restless I guess. I guess after having such a busy week and weekend, doing nothing, although it feels good, makes me restless. Maddie is already asleep. DJ is out fishing with my Dad. So I am alone and all of the opportunities without a kid and a hubby at home are just too much for me to handle. lol.
I really really NEED to clean the house. But I don't want to. I don't know what I want to do! Even surfing the net seems boring. :(
I guess there is nothing left to do but post a picture of my cutie pie!
This was taken yesterday morning. Since we have a slow week I am trying to get Maddie to combine her morning nap with her afternoon nap so I can get a longer one out of her. Well this was past her morning nap time so she was pretty tired, but I would not put her down in her crib. I am on the computer and I notice she is very quiet so I look out to see what she is into, and this is what I find. LOL.

Sleep
So I have been having a hard time with Maddie and sleep lately. I think I just realized today how important her sleep is, not just to her, but to me. Especially the more and more pregnant I get, and even once the baby comes. I started rocking her to sleep, and even sleeping with her during naps. Today, she was obviously so tired... and since she got half the sleep she normally does this weekend camping, I played tough Mom. I put her in her crib for her nap. Something we have not done for almost a month now, probably. She eventually did go to sleep- not for long, maybe 40 minutes. (we did nap later in the day for 2 hours) But I realized in those 40 minutes how important it is for us to get back to our regular sleep patterns- her sleeping and going to sleep herself in her crib.
I have been a lot less patient with her than I used to be. I am more tired than I used to be, but I think this really stems more from that fact that I need some time to myself. Those 40 minutes were nice, relaxing... actually I think the word is refreshing. It allowed me to be much more patient with her this evening than I have been in the past few weeks since I started allowing her to sleep with me and be rocked to sleep. I started this for a few reasons. I always want her to feel like I am there for her. I also took a lot of people's comments about how they LOVED the rocking to sleep time to heart and started to feel guilty that I was less of a Mom. However I have realized that although I do enjoy rocking her to sleep and sharing that time with her, I think she and I will be better off, if she has a refreshed, patient Mommy, than a grouchy/feel like I have no down time Mommy. So, I am going with my original instincts, and not letting comments from others allow myself to feel a certain way. Maddie and I bonded a long time ago. And we both know what is best for each other. And when I follow those instincts and let the bond we have work for us, that is when things work best, and we are happiest. No matter how anyone else does it.

SLEEP
Oh geez, sleeping has been interesting that past two weeks.
Maddie is going through a lot of changes, you know, being so much more mobile and active, and I feel like her little mind is just always going. She is also cutting teeth which I think has not helped the sleep issue. Plus, last week Daddy was out of town, and she needs her Daddy time or she is just NOT the same.
I am trying to be compassionate, yet firm as to not create any new habits that DJ and I do not want to form- i.e. sleeping in our bed as a permanent thing. So, last night was a night that I knew she was feeling fine. Sometimes she had a bit of a fever, or pulled on her ears, etc. Things that made me think she was not 100%. Well last night DJ put her down to bed and she slept there for a good hour. Then woke up. I could tell that her cry was a half-asleep cry, so I did not go into her room, for fear of waking her up more. Well there would be long silences with a bit of crying. DJ and I both knew this meant she was sitting up... and falling asleep while sitting up. One time DJ went in to lay her down. But she gets right up again. Then I went in a bit later and here is the super sad, and kinda funny part. I want to take a pic of this.. but I swear, it looks so sad, I can't actually take the pic. She is sitting up, but has obviously fallen over from falling asleep... so she is bent at the waist, and is usually laying down with her head on her bumper. I went in and gently laid her down and she didn't get back up... yay. :) She stayed asleep until DJ got up this morning. THen I brought her into bed with me and she fell back asleep until 9. That is about the only good thing about her sleeping in bed with us... she sleeps in very long. At least 9:00 :). Hence why I was happy to have her come into bed with me this morning.
She is eating so much big girl food now. Last night DJ and I went to Logans for dinner and she pigged out on my Mac and Cheese side dish! I couldn't them up fast enough for her. She also wouldn't take anymore potatoes after I gave her the Mac and cheese!
She is now doing the sign for "More" and "Eat" It is SUPER cute. I think everyone should teach their children sign language... JUST to see how super smart they are so early on! Sometimes when she does the sign for "More" she doesn't get it just righ, and I swear it is like she realizes that she is not doing it right. One time, I swear it was like she shook her head like No, that is not right. Or she will start to do it and it isn't right, she stops and does something else like put her hand on her head like, "I wasn't trying to say more, I swear" IT cracks me up. And then, when she is doing it very well, she is so proud about it. Huge smile on her face, and she does it with much force and pride. Hands right out in front of her, dramatic motions. I think I might have a perfectionist on my hands!
She also barks when you ask her what our Dog says.. or if she hears him, or other dogs in the neighborhood bark for that matter. NOW, it is not a super perfect "Wolf, Wolf" But she raises her chest and makes this noise, and I know what it means, and it makes me smile every time she does it. Maxim barks to be let in, and sometimes I tune him out. Then she will look at me and "bark" and I think, oh, right, Max wants in.
Still here thinking BLUE for today! :)

Daddy and Maddie
DJ has been working 16-18 hour days preparing for the Auto Show. I didn't realize we had a routine with Maddie. But I guess we do. DJ gets home from work and will usually feed Maddie one of her bottles, then we all sit on the couch and watch TV. I don't usually watch TV without DJ around, so the past few days with DJ not getting home till 11 or after, I would put Maddie to bed while doing things around the house and being on the computer. She wasn't sleeping well, and I think it was because her schedule changed. The first night, she woke up minutes after he came home. He held her, gave her some hugs and kisses, and then I put her back down. She went right back to sleep. This pretty much happened every night he came home late. The first night he got home on time, he fed Maddie her bottle, and it wasn't nap time, but she fell asleep in his arms. I think she just got so comfy cozy with her Daddy that she had to snooze. Of course after working so many long hours, it was easy for DJ to fall asleep too!

12 minutes
How long it takes Maddie to cry herself to sleep..
Yup, I did CIO last night. She was overtired, I was quite exhausted, and holding her to sleep was not doing the trick.
It was a long weekend and DJ and I got home and both wanted some snuggle time. However Maddie wakes up- and I mean wakes up, so I bring her into bed with us and she eventually goes back to sleep. So I take her back to her crib and 15 minutes later (right after I find the perfect curve in DJs arm to lay on and get comfy) she is crying again. I go to try to calm her in the crib, and think of what to do. I know she has gotten used to be held over the last few days (reason to be shared in a later blog when I have more time) and I was thinking ok, I could take her back to bed and let her sleep with us tonight, as I can break her of this in a couple of days when I don't have to get up early for work. I really don't want to take her back to the bed for a couple of reasons... DJ and I needing some snuggle time, and the fact that we are both dead tired and I don't trust myself to sleep with her when I know I am this tired. So, I lay her pacifier by her, move her clothes hamper so I can close her door, and tell myself I will give her 10 minutes. (even though I promised myself I would never do CIO again after our first try with it) I am seriously soo tired that I lay there and am almost falling asleep to the sound of her cry. She comes down, then starts to get mad with a more loud cry. I of course pick my head up every few minutes to see how long it has been. The first two minutes were the hardest. I was like, whoa it has only been 2 minutes!!
Needless to say, by the time 10 minutes rolled around she was still crying but definitely shutting down. Finally 12 minutes...complete silence!! I wait another 3 minutes to go over and open her door. I should have taken a picture, but I was really tired. But she passed out in the corner of her crib, both hands behind her head... her legs spread wide. It was pretty funny!! She actually slept the best she has in a while. Didn't cry at all for her pacifier during the night. I was joking with my mom that she was probably thinking "why bother crying, Mom doesn't answer to it now anyhow!" But I really just think she was so tired out... she stayed in that same position all night. When I came in to wake her up this morning she was in the corner still, with one hand behind her head, and the other holding her pacifier in her mouth. She opened her eyes when she heard me walk in, but didn't move. She didn't really want to wake up. I waited a while then finally gently placed my hand on her belly and said "Are you gonna get up, or what" She finally looks at me and then starts smiling.
It was hard to let her CIO, but I think there are some times when it works, and I am glad we did it last night.
