DJ and Maddie were playing yesterday and oh my did he have her laughing! It was the most heartiest laugh I have ever heard, and it just made my heart melt and everything smile. She loves her Daddy. This morning, we were laying in bed (Dj was in the shower when she woke up) and she hears the shower turn off. She got SOOO excited that she knew her Daddy would be coming out soon. It is so sweet.
I am just wondering, how did this guy get to become Super Daddy? And he really is such a good Dad. I am..... hmmm.... what's the word, surprised? Not really, surprised, but there were many times before he became a Dad... even while I was pregnant that I wasn't really sure what to expect. I mean, I knew my husband was a great guy... but I thought he had a LONG way to come with the baby stuff. But something did just switch once she was born. We were laughing about this the other night.
When DJ went out to get us Taco Bell he told me he was taking the Wrangler- he had just took the top off. I of course gave a pouty face, jealous that he got to go riding in the wrangler with the top off. I jokingly said to him, "Ah, the kid is crashed out from the weekend, maybe I will go for a ride with ya." He laughed and said, "ya, remember the time I tried to convince Rob to go to the pizza place"
How could I forget!!!!!
I am pregnant with Maddie, and he is at his friends house and they had ordered pizza for dinner. ( I was probably working late and his friends wife was at school) His friends son is sleeping... but DJ wants him to go get the pizza with him. He says in all seriousness- "Just leave him sleeping, take the monitor, we will only be gone 5 minutes." The pizza place is honestly right at the end of their block. They can walk there as fast as I could go down to my neighbors house. BUT STILL. And his friend... who, hmmm, how should I put this... let's just say has had to have MANY lessons from his wife on what is an acceptable way to take care of their babies- when their first baby was 1 or 2 days old, he tried to give her Hawaiian punch! Just didn't think there was anything wrong with it. lol Anyhow, I digress, even HE knew that you do not leave a baby home alone, even for 5 minutes! Monitor or not! Locked doors or not!
I remember the night I heard about this story. And my husband just looks at me like, what is the big deal!?!?! He still didn't get it after all of us, and other friends hearing the story were like "YOU do NOT do that!" I remember just sitting there thinking "Oh, Shit!" I am having a baby with this man. Am I going to be able trust him with the baby alone, am I going to be constantly having to teach him what is right and wrong, is he going to be fighting me the whole way? I could just see us having an argument about him wanting to leave the baby at home while we go down the block or something. BUT, I don't know what happened. A switch flipped. He changed. He got it. I guess when you suddenly have this sweet precious thing to take care of, your priorities get all straightened out. I have been thinking about this a lot lately. One of the couples we went camping with are expecting their first baby girl in September. They remind me exactly of DJ and I when we were expecting Maddie. I told the woman to just wait. Her husband is going to be wrapped around his daughters fingers immediately. And he will suddenly 'Get it'.
Just like DJ was.
I am glad I am married to a Super Daddy.
