So I made peas yesterday for Maddie for the first time. And let me just tell you... those thing froze GREEN! When I first fed them to her I mixed them with some cereal and DJ was like WHAT are you feeding our Baby? They were a almost florescent green color. LOL.
Making baby food is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Actually it is not the making it part... but I had no idea how much stuff is in even frozen veggies and stuff. I had a hard time finding peas that were not packaged with salt, and I never did find any fruits that did not have salt or sugar in them. Although I did give up easily, so I will still search that out more. At this point I couldn't imagine NOT making her food, but it is harder to get variety in. I especially can't see not making her food now that I see how much cheaper it is. So for my bag of peas I paid $.98 and it filled two ice cube trays. I feed her 2 cubes at a time, which I believe is about half a container of store bought food, and those are $1.5 for one container.
So yesterday she had peas for the first time. Not really sure what she thought of them. The first few bites she was eating them just fine. Then she started gagging. One time she refused the spoon, the next try she accepted it and gagged again. So I didn't give her any more. She hadn't even eaten half.
Sooo, today, I mixed one cube of peas with a mashed banana!!! Is that gross?? Maybe, but she at the whole thing loving every bite!! And no gagging!!! It can't be that bad, and I am just happy to have finally gotten a green veggie in her.

EW! It is totally gross. Isn't it amazing the lengths to which we stoop as parents of babies? :) Gross or not, she ate the peas.
Congrats on your foray into baby food making. I love it, and it makes me feel good.
Are you using www.wholesomebabyfood.com? They have how to pick the food and prepare it so they get the most nutrients. The only thing I make from frozen is peas and green beans.
